Led by Parwati Dutta, its Founder-Director and eminent Kathak & Odissi artiste, MAHĀGĀMI, the only centre of its kind in Maharashtra state, is the first ISO-certified Arts center and an honorary member of the International Dance Council-UNESCO known for its unique gurukul-based pedagogical design, inter-disciplinary dialogues and path-breaking creative offerings. More than 2000 students and 150,000 seekers have benefitted from its pioneering efforts towards introducing and nurturing Kathak, Odissi, Dhrupad and other art forms in the Marathwada region.
With the formation of the MGM University in 2019, the Performing Arts Department was named as MAHĀGĀMI GURUKUL Center for Performing Arts with an aim to facilitate immersive learning with an academic edge and global worldview within the University ecosystem. The pedagogy is based on Gurukul Pattern that is widely accepted and acknowledged by Performing Arts departments across many Indian Universities. The synergy between Shāstra-Prayoga-Paramparā-Anusandhān (Textual-Praxis-Tradition-Research) forms the basis of the Gurukul-based institutional pedagogy known as MAHĀGĀMI GURUKUL which is coupled with the Choice-based credit system, also incorporating the vision towards implementation of National Education Policy (NEP).
MAHĀGĀMI GURUKUL Center for Performing Arts offers University programs in Performing Arts and Indic Studies aimed at empowering the artistically inclined, intellectually awakened learners towards realising a future as mainstream artists, knowledgeable teachers, researchers, curators, arts administrators and policy makers.
Kathak, a graceful dance marked by gliding movements, crisp rhythm patterns and silvery spins can be learnt by the beginners as well the advanced learners through the University programs. Ideal blend of tradition and global academic approach makes the programs not just engaging, but nourishing too. Value addition through skills, visual arts, yoga, music, textual studies, creative endeavours and technological interfaces are highlights of the programs.
Odissi was introduced in Marathwada in 1996 by Parwati Dutta and since then few generations of learners been able to learn and perform this lyrical dance in Indian'and International festivals. The First University in Maharashtra to offer Degrees in Odissi, the programs are Ideal blend of tradition and global academic approach. Value addition through skills, visual arts, yoga, music, textual studies, creative endeavours and technological interfaces are highlights of the programs.
M.A. program in Musicology is a unique opportunity to learn about the diverse music traditions, music history, sound, acoustics and much more under eminent experts. Ideal for professional musicians and senior music learners aspiring to create a niche for them in the creative world, the learning content ranges from different ferms of music, epigraphy, & cientianguages, treatises, technology, to music recording, music laws, music writing. Dhrupad is the oldest surviving Heritage of India. Enlisted by the UNESCO as an important heritage art, the vocal & instrumental forms of Dhrupad tradition has been nurtured at MAHAGAMI GURUKUL since 1996. Diploma in Dhrupad is an opportunity for Dhrupad learners to engage themselves in the theory, praxis and parampara of this profound form of music.
The Natyashastra is probably the oldest dramaturgical treatise on the performing arts in Sanskrit attributed to sage Bharata Muni. The Diploma program in Natyashastra aims at providing a deeper understanding about the ancient Indian society, belief system, art forms, enactment, design, writing, symbols of expression and much more. The program is useful for students, practitioners and teachers of drama, dance, music and fine arts. It can also be a value addition for architects, designers, writers and creative minds seeking to expand their imagination.
Manipuri dance embodies delicate, lyrical and graceful movements of Lasya and the vibrant movement vocabulary of Tandava. The dance features rounded soft sensuous movements and occasional fast movements by male characters. Here is an opportunity to learn this dance form which was a vital component in 'Rabindra Nritya' created by Guru Rabindranath Tagore and an inseparable feature of Shantiniketan the first Modern Gurukul Universiy founded in pre-Independence India.

Sanskrit literature embodies a comprehensive map of the human makeup: spiritual, emotional, mental and physical.
